Gabriela Figueiredo Dias is the new CMVM president
The now vice-president of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) will take on leadership, according to ECO, replacing Carlos Tavares.
Gabriela Figueiredo Dias will be appointed the new president of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM – Comissão de Mercado de Valores Mobiliários), disclosed ECO. The successor of Carlos Tavares should be announced during the next few days.
More than one year after the expiry of his term of office, Carlos Tavares has, at last, a successor. Gabriela Figueiredo Dias is the current vice-president of CMVM, the supervisor and regulator of securities markets, since July 2015.
Gabriela Figueiredo Dias has been a part of CMVM since 2007, working as deputy director for the Regulatory Policy and International Department.
The new CMVM president has a Law degree from the University of Coimbra; Gabriela Figueiredo Dias started her career practicing law in firms such as Rodrigo Santiago & Associados and Miguel Galvão Teles/Soares da Silva. She became a legal consultant, and after that started working in CMVM. Simultaneously, she has developed a career as a university lecturer in faculties such as Faculdade de Direito de Coimbra (Coimbra Faculty of Law), Universidade Católica (Catholic University), Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa (Lisbon Faculty of Law), among others.
