The profit obtained is the second-highest in the history of the Benfica professional soccer management company, only surpassed by the 44.5 million euros registered in 2016/17.

Benfica SAD’s net profit amounted to 41.7 million euros in the 2019/20 financial year, a year-on-year increase of 48.7%, in the best year of income ever, marked by the ‘millionaire’ sale of João Félix, revealed the club.

The profit obtained is the second-highest in the history of the Benfica professional soccer management company, only surpassed by the 44.5 million euros registered in 2016/17, in what is the seventh consecutive year with positive results.

As for the operating result, there was an improvement of 65.5%, to 54 million euros, according to figures made available to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

Benfica SAD’s revenues amounted to 294.4 million euros, a new maximum, corresponding to an increase of 20.5% over the previous year.

“This is a path of growing affirmation that culminated in 2019/20 in a net positive result of over 40 million euros, which, in a context strongly conditioned by the pandemic, reflects well the work carried out off the pitch,” stressed President Luís Filipe Vieira, in the message that accompanies the Report and Accounts.

The president added that “it is the seventh consecutive financial year of Benfica SAD with profit, which cannot fail to be praised” and that “naturally this result would not have been achieved without the transfer of João Félix.”

In the accounts presented, besides the sale of João Félix to Atlético Madrid for 120 million euros last summer, there are also the transfers of Raúl Tomás, André Carrillo, Sálvio and Lisandro López.

Assets reached 487.1 million euros at the end of the year, an increase of 0.7% in relation to the end of the previous year, with constant growth in the value of assets over the last five years.

In turn, liabilities fell 10.6% to 325.8 million euros during fiscal year 2019/20, this was “the sharpest decline of the last few fiscal years, reinforcing the progressive downward trend in liabilities.”

Shareholders’ equity amounted to 161.1 million euros on June 30, 2020, the highest figure ever achieved by the club.
