Benfica, FC Porto among 32 top European football clubs by value
Benfica and FC Porto are on the list of the 32 European football clubs with the highest commercial value, according to a study released this Thursday by KPMG.
Benfica and FC Porto are among the 32 European football clubs with the highest commercial value, in 24th and 30th place respectively, according to a study released on Thursday by the accounting and management consultancy firm KPMG, on a list that is headed by Real Madrid of Spain.
Benfica, which is up two places from last year’s ranking, has an estimated commercial value of 410 million euros, while FC Porto, which did not appear in last year’s list, is said to be worth 313 million euros.
Real Madrid once more tops the list, at 3.478 billion euros, followed by the English club Manchester United, valued at 3.342 billion euros.
Barcelona is now in third place at 3.193 billion euros, having overtaken Bayern Munich of Germany, which at 2.878 billion euros is now in fourth.
The list of 32 clubs published by KPMG is dominated by clubs from Europe’s five major leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France), with just five exceptions: as well as Benfica and Porto, Ajax of the Netherlands (at 23rd), Galatasaray of Turkey (27th) and Besiktas (31st).
The report is based on an analysis of the more recent financial statements from the clubs available, taking into account five specific metrics: profit, sporting potential, popularity, broadcasting rights and stadium ownership.
