Portuguese Government cuts VAT on masks to 6%
The Council of Ministers approved this Thursday the reduction of VAT on protective masks and disinfectant gel to 6%.
The cabinet has approved a law that provides for a reduction in the VAT rate on protective masks and disinfectant gel and VAT exemption for national and EU operators in the supply of personal protective equipment.
The proposed law approved today “extends to national and EU operators the exemption of VAT on the supply to hospitals and charitable organizations of health equipment, including personal protective equipment,” the cabinet statement said.
The law also determines the “application of the reduced VAT rate of 6% to the sale of masks for respiratory protection and skin disinfectant gel, the use of which is recommended as a measure to combat the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak”.
