The minister for infrastructure and planning said this Wednesday that €700 million from Portugal 2020 funds have already been approved for projects in the region of Alentejo.

Portugal’s minister of planning and infrastructure, Pedro Marques, revealed on Wednesday that €700 million in corporate projects have been approved for the southern Alentejo region as part of Portugal 2020 framework platform.

“Just in the framework of Portugal 2020 we have already approved 700 million euros in corporate projects for the Alentejo region, that will enable the diversification of economic activity in the region and the reinforcement of the specialisation conditions of the region’s development profile,” Mr Marques said a congress at the Portalegre city council.

Mr Marques also pointed out that the railway works under way would “create value for the territory and make it more attractive for the installation of companies and bring new employment.”

Some of the main topics being discussed at the congress include desertification, management of water, economic development and road and railway infrastructures.
