Afrika-Verein, a German-African business association has said that deals with Angola have stagnated in recent years. The visit by Angola’s president, João Lourenço, to Germany comes at the right time.

“Angola is not visible enough on the German business radar”, the president of Afrika-Verein, Stefan Liebing, said although there were various projects being assessed and developed at the moment and he hoped to announce a significant increase in the future.

“Economic relations between Germany and Angola were dynamic and strong until oil prices collapsed. Unfortunately, this paralysed the economy causing bilateral trade to stagnate in recent years”, Stefan Liebing said.

Afrika-Verein is a trade association that brings together almost all German companies with business in Africa or that plan to have dealings with the continent.

It said that while Angolan exports to Germany were almost completely limited to oil, natural gas and petroleum products, Germany exported vehicles, machinery and technology to Angola.

Angola’s president is scheduled to visit Germany on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
