On Monday, the SNVPAC announced that it would go ahead with a seven-day strike notice at TAP, between 25 and 31 January, according to a note sent to members.

Portugal’s national civil aviation flight staff union (SNPVAC) is meeting in an emergency general meeting on 19 January to consider a proposal put forward by TAP ahead of the strike from 25 to 31 this month.

“At the request of the Board of Directors, […] I call on the associates of TAP to meet in an emergency general meeting, next 19 January, at 10:00 am, at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel,” reads a note sent on Wednesday to members of the SNPVAC, to which Lusa had access today.

According to the same letter, the sole point on the agenda of the meeting will be the “presentation, discussion and voting on the proposal presented by TAP”.

On Monday, the SNVPAC announced that it would go ahead with a seven-day strike notice at TAP, between 25 and 31 January, according to a note sent to members.

Thus, “fulfilling what was deliberated at the emergency general meeting on December 6, point 2”, which defined the “scheduling of a minimum of five days of strike action to take place until January 31 on dates defined by the management and communicated to members 24 hours before the strike notice is entered”, the chairman of the general meeting of the union body said that “it was informed by the SNPVAC management that a seven (seven) day strike notice will be entered tomorrow, corresponding to the days from January 25 to 31, inclusive”.

“I call on everyone to join the strike so that, once again, we can show the company that we are united in our discontent regarding the issues discussed and deliberated at the meeting on 3 November, which are our legitimate and responsible demands,” the union said in the statement.

TAP said it respected and regretted the SNPVAC’s decision to go ahead with a strike this month and assured that it was doing everything possible to reach an agreement.

On 29 December, the general meeting of the SNPVAC rejected TAP’s proposal, maintaining its intention to hold a five-day strike until 31 January, a union source told Lusa at the time.

The company’s proposal was rejected, with 615 votes against, six in favour and one abstention, maintaining the possibility of going ahead with a five-day strike until 31 January, as had been decided at the last SNPVAC meeting.

It should be recalled that this union held a strike of TAP crew members on December 8 and 9, which led the airline to previously cancel 360 flights and had a total estimated impact of eight million euros.
