The prime minister had said that the disposal of TAP's capital could be partial or total but was confident that the Portuguese flag would continue to decorate the airline's planes.

Portugal’s flag carrier TAP has hired a consultancy firm that has already carried out a market analysis of potential stakeholders in the company’s state capital, the prime minister said in parliament.

“TAP has hired a consultant that has already carried out a market consultation of potential interested parties,” António Costa said in the parliamentary debate on general policy, in response to IL (Liberal Initiative Party) MP Carlos Guimarães Pinto on Wednesday.

The IL MP had questioned “what steps have been taken and who took those steps for the process [of selling TAP] to be underway”.

The prime minister had said that the disposal of TAP’s capital could be partial or total but was confident that the Portuguese flag would continue to decorate the airline’s planes.

“The top priority we have is that the necessary stability is maintained so that the process of partial or total sale of the State’s stake in the company can go ahead smoothly,” António Costa said in a response to right-wing Chega Party MP Filipe Melo.

António Costa reiterated that the executive is awaiting the presentation of the company’s results for last year but expressed confidence.

“The results that we are aware of do not point in the direction of that catastrophe you indicate. On the contrary, the indication we have at the moment is that in 2022, perhaps, TAP achieved results that according to the restructuring plan were only foreseen for a few years from now. We will wait for the final results,” he said.
