The co-founder and chief executive of Web Summmit announced on Thursday that the event – which claims to be Europe’s largest for the tech sector – will come to Africa within the next three or four years.

Cosgrave was speaking to journalists at a news conference on the third day of Web Summit, which is taking place in Lisbon until Friday.

“We will go to Africa in 2025 or 2026,” said Cosgrave, who also highlighted Web Summit’s return to Lisbon this year in an in-person format, on a scale that he said had never been achieved before.

There are more than 70,000 people signed up to take part in this year’s event, according to organisers.
