Health authority reports 2M Covid booster vaccine doses given so far

The Directorate-General of Health (DGS) announced that Portugal has so far administered 2 million doses of booster vaccine against Covid-19.

Portugal has so far administered 2 million doses of booster vaccine against Covid-19 and 2.2 million doses of influenza vaccine, announced the Directorate-General of Health (DGS).

In a statement released at the end of the day on Sunday, the DGS reiterates that “vaccination is the best way to protect against serious illness, hospitalisations and death”, and reinforces “the appeal for people who are not yet vaccinated to schedule” a jab at https://covid19.min-saude.pt/pedido-de-agendamento”.

Currently, self-scheduling is available for people aged 65 and over. In addition, the Open House modality is available for people aged 75 and over, the schedules for which can be consulted at https://covid19.min-saude.pt/casa-aberta/.

The DGS recalls that “users who have not had Covid-19 in the last 150 days and have completed the vaccination scheme at least 150 days ago are eligible for the reinforcement dose in the Open House regime.”

According to the DGS, 64,400 people on Saturday alone received their booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Also according to the DGS, on Saturday a total of 3,926 people completed their primary vaccination scheme, making for a total of 8,622,014 people with this complete scheme.

Saturday also saw another 16,669 people receive their vaccination against flu.

Portugal on Sunday reported 3,879 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19 and 13 deaths associated with the disease. Twelve more people were admitted to the hospital with Covid-19, according to official data released today.

According to information released on Sunday by the task force that is coordinating the testing process, Portugal on Friday achieved a new record for daily testing, with 197,718 screening tests for the coronavirus being performed. The positivity rate was 3.1%.

In Portugal, 18,658 people have died from Covid-19 since March 2020 and 1,192,288 cases of infection have been recorded.

Worldwide, Covid-19 has caused at least 5,300,591 deaths out of the more than 269.02 million infections by the new coronavirus recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest tally from Agence France-Presse.
