The Azores currently have 239 active, positive cases: 172 in Sao Miguel, 29 in Terceira, 16 in Sao Jorge, 14 in Faial, seven in Graciosa, and one in Corvo.

The president of the Azores regional government, José Manuel Bolieiro, said on Tuesday that the region would require a negative test for Covid-19 from passengers coming from abroad, just like arrivals to the Portuguese mainland.

Bolieiro said further clarification would follow the meeting of the Council of Government to be held on Wednesday.

At that meeting, he revealed that new measures would be adopted regarding masks in enclosed spaces.

Bolieiro stressed that the regional government would “resort to caution” despite the Azores being “perfectly safe” regarding the epidemiological situation.

The president of the regional government said this Tuesday that measures to control the pandemic at the airport in force would remain: “We have had these rules for months and months. It has always gone well, we have always managed to control the situation, so we are not going to change any rules.”

Passengers arriving in Madeira with a vaccination certificate do not need to present a Covid-19 test, although they can do so if they wish.

Passengers coming from the Azores and Madeira to mainland Portugal are exempt from presenting a negative test for Covid-19 to board as of Wednesday.

The Azores currently have 239 active, positive cases: 172 in Sao Miguel, 29 in Terceira, 16 in Sao Jorge, 14 in Faial, seven in Graciosa, and one in Corvo.
