Portugal’s unemployment rate down to 6.6% in July

In July, the unemployment rate reached 6.6%, down 0.2 percentage points (p.p) compared with the previous month.

The unemployment rate in Portugal stood at 6.6% in July, representing a decrease of 0.2 percentage points (p.p.) compared with the previous month, according to Statistics Portugal (INE).

“The unemployment rate stood at 6.6%, down 0.2 pp from the previous month, down 0.4 pp from three months before and down 1.5 pp from July 2020,” details the statistics office.

The employed population increase by 0.8% from the previous month, “of 2.7% from three months before and of 5.2% from the same month of 2020,” INE explains.

As for the labour underutilisation rate, it was estimated at 12.5%, down 0.3 pp from June 2021 and down 3.2 pp from July 2020.
