Portugal’s unemployment down 9.5% in July YoY

According to the IEFP, at the end of July, 368,704 unemployed people were registered with the employment services, a number that represents 66.5% of a total of 554,797 job applications.

The number of unemployed registered in the employment centres decreased 9.5% in July in year-on-year terms and fell 2.4% compared to June, according to data released on Monday by the Employment and Professional Training Institute (IEFP).

According to the IEFP, at the end of July, 368,704 unemployed people were registered with the employment services, a number that represents 66.5% of a total of 554,797 job applications.

At a regional level, in July 2021, registered unemployment fell in most regions compared to the previous month, with the exception of the autonomous region of Madeira (+1.7%).

The most pronounced decrease occurred in the Algarve region (-21.5%).

Considering the professional groups of the registered unemployed in the continent, the most representative is the unskilled workers (25.4%), the personal services, security and salesmen (22.0%) and the administrative staff (11.8%).
