Portugal's government announced on Wednesday that the minimum wage will be increased by €30 in January 2021 to €665.

The government announced on Wednesday that the minimum wage will be increased by €30 in January 2021 to €665 and is preparing measures to compensate companies for this increase.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, in a press conference after the meeting of the Permanent Commission for Social Dialogue (CPCS), in which the social partners were heard on the matter.

Currently, the minimum wage is €635 and the Government aims to reach €750 by the end of its legislature.

Employers’ confederations have contested the increase because of economic difficulties for companies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
