Government postpones project for green hydrogen production in Sines

The Government's ambitions for green hydrogen production have not disappeared with the Pandemic, but they will be delayed at least until June.

The Government has postponed the national strategy presentation for green hydrogen, that includes the unit construction in Sines, at least until June. The information was advanced by Jornal de Negócios, which states that the constraints caused by the Pandemic justify this decision.

The country has also delayed signing the Memorandum of Understanding with Netherlands for the project “Green Flamingo”, which aims to produce hydrogen in Sines with the energy produced by a new solar plant to be installed there.

Still, despite the postponements, the coronavirus Pandemic does not put the project at risk. Nor do the recent differences between Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and Dutch Government officials when negotiating the European response to the virus.
