Benfica football club confirms president one of 17 coronavirus cases

The Portuguese club said on Tuesday that its president, Luís Filipe Vieira, is among several positive coronavirus cases that have been detected at the club.

Lisbon football club Benfica said on Tuesday that its president, Luís Filipe Vieira, is among several positive coronavirus cases that have been detected at the club.

It added that Vieira, 71, has shown no symptoms.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica confirms that its president, Luís Filipe Vieira, is infected with Covid-19 and is asymptomatic,” the club said in a short note posted on its official website.

Benfica announced earlier that it had detected 17 new cases of the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19, in players, coaching staff and club officials, in testing conducted since Saturday.
