The list of municipalities with tighter restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19 has grown. It went from 121 to 191.

The list of municipalities in Portugal deemed by the government to be at high risk of transmission of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, and which are therefore to be subject to more restrictive measures such as a curfew, is from Monday to increase to 191, the government announced on Thursday.

The list, which for now has 121 municipalities, is to lose seven municipalities where the curfew and other restrictions are no longer to be in force, starting from Friday, and includes 77 new municipalities starting at midnight on Sunday, the prime minister, António Costa, announced after a cabinet meeting at the National Palace of Ajuda, in Lisbon.

This specific list is compiled according to the general criterion used by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) of “more than 240 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days,” as well as taking into account the proximity of the municipality in question to another one in that situation.

In these municipalities, with the highest level of risk, are in force measures such as a night-time curfew between 11 pm and 5 am and mandatory teleworking. In addition, there will be a greater restriction on the curfew in these municipalities on the next two Saturdays and Sundays, circulation in these municipalities will be prohibited from 1 pm to 5 am.
