Covid-19: Portugal registers highest daily death toll

The country registered a record daily rise of 82 coronavirus death and 4,935 new cases of the virus as of Wednesday.

There are 4,935 new cases of coronavirus compared to Tuesday, bringing the total number of people infected with the disease to 192,172. 82 people have died in the last 24 hours, the highest daily death toll since the beginning of this pandemic, according to the latest official report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

Of the total number of people infected with the new coronavirus, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 2,785 inpatients, 391 of them in intensive care units. There are over 65,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

Since it was detected in Portugal at the beginning of March, the coronavirus has caused the death of 3,103 people, 82 of them in the last 24 hours.
