Turnover in industry drops 1.8% in September – INE

Turnover in industry fell by 1.8% in September in Portugal in year-on-year terms (-5.7% in August), according to data released on Tuesday by Statistics Portugal (INE).

According to INE, excluding energy, the change was marginally positive, with sales rising 0.1% (-4.2% in August).

The figures for the domestic market and the external market recorded variations of -1.4% and -2.3% (-6.5% and -4.2% in August), respectively.

In the third quarter of 2020 as a whole, turnover fell by 6.4% year-on-year (-25.4% in the previous quarter).

Employment, wages and hours worked fell by 3%, 0.1% and 4.1% year-on-year, compared with falls of 2.9%, 1.9% and 1.4% in August in the same order.
