There are 229 new cases of coronavirus in Portugal. Death toll at 1,576

The number of cases of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 42,141. Since the outbreak was detected in the country, 1,576 people have died.

Portugal has registered 229 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This is an increase of 0.55% compared to the previous day, with the total number of infected people rising to 42,141.

Eight more people died from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,576, according to the latest official bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). The number of people reported as recovered is now 27,505.

Since mid-May, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has concentrated the biggest concerns and is already the region with the highest number of confirmed cases since the outbreak was detected in the country on March 2. Thus, 188 new cases were identified in this region, which represents about 82.1% of the national total.
