Lisbon region outbreak responsible for 85% of new Covid-19 cases

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region is responsible for 85% of the new Covid-19 cases in the country.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region is responsible for 85% of the new Covid-19 cases in Portugal, the health authorities (DGS) said on Sunday with 391 of the 457 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

The percentage of new cases located in Lisbon and Tagus Valley has increased compared to Saturday when the region had 79% of new Covid-19 cases with 255 of the 323 new infections that day.

The municipalities in Lisbon with the highest number of infections are Lisbon, with 3,423 patients, and Sintra, with 2,564.

Three other municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area have more than a thousand infections with the new coronavirus: Loures, with 1,791, Amadora, with 1,645, and Odivelas, with 1,084.

In total, these five municipalities account for 10,507 of confirmed cases of infection, more than half the total for the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, where the number totals 18,752.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused more than 498,000 deaths and infected more than 10 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance by the French agency AFP.
