Coronavirus: number of deaths rises to 140 in Portugal

The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Portugal rose to 6,408, while the number of deaths from the coronavirus rose to 140 by midnight.

Health authorities discovered 446 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, increasing the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Portugal from 5,962 to 6,408. The data also show that 21 more patients have died from the virus, bringing the death toll in Portugal to 140.

The number of people recovered remains at 43, according to the most recent information report from the Directorate General for Health (DGS). There are 571 people in hospital, 164 of them in intensive care units.

According to official information, of the 6,408 confirmed cases, 3,801 are located in the country’s north, where 74 fatalities occurred, 1,577 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (30 deaths), 784 in the Centro (34 deaths), 116 in the Algarve (two deaths) and 45 in the Alentejo area. As regards the autonomous regions, there are 44 confirmed cases in Madeira and 41 in the Azores.
