The Socialist Party wants to hear António Domingues, CGD’s former chairman, and the minister of Finance Mário Centeno, but not in the parliamentary board of inquiry for the public bank’s management.

João Galamba, member of the Portuguese Socialist Party (PS), denied this Friday that the socialists intended to harm the truth when they voted against hearing António Domingues and Mário Centeno in the parliamentary board of inquiry. The socialists believed it was not the right ‘stage’ to hear the former chairman for CGD and the minister of Finance, and so PS filed an application to hear them within the Finance and Fiscal Committee. These were the statements made by João Galamba to journalists in the Portuguese Parliament.

On Thursday afternoon, Hugo Soares, member of the Portuguese Social Democratic Party (PSD), accused PS, the Left Block (BE) and the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) to attemp to “block the truth” by voting against hearing both officials in a board of inquiry; Hugo Soares assured the president of the Committe José Matos Correia, however, considered the reasons PSD presented for having a parliamentary board of inquiry were valid.

In parliamentary inquiries, “the parties involved are obliged to be present when noticed, and they must speak the truth, under penalty of perjury”, says Hugo Soares. As for the Finance and Fiscal Committee, if it is proved that they are not telling the truth, their only accountability is political, he assured.
