The Portuguese prime minister’s trip to China has started echoing. After having signed a memorandum with NOS, Huawei inaugurated this Wednesday its first innovation center in Portugal.

It was inaugurated this Wednesday in Parque das Nações, Lisbon, the Huawei Portugal Innovation & Experience Center, the first center of the Chinese brand in the country.

The brand aims to bring the country closer to the most recent and innovative technologies and it also aims to invest in the training of over five thousand Portuguese students. “With Huawei Technology Innovation & Experience Center, we aim to import the latest technology innovations concerning Investigation & Development, as well as the best global practices. We also aim to create products and innovative solutions with our local partners and broaden our certifications and training to local talents in order to develop national ICTs and have a more connected country”, explained Chris Lu, Huawei’s representative in Portugal.

"Huawei has been a very positive and dynamic presence in Portugal, and has committed to making efforts that sustain economic growth and employment.”

We should recall that, in October, the Portuguese prime minister António Costa travelled to China. The trip had many aims, but the primary objective was to attempt to attract investment and companies to Portugal, including bringing Huawei’s technological center here. By then, NOS, a Portuguese communications and entertainment group, had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company. However, the partnership between them isn’t news: in 2005, NOS had chosen Huawei to develop the first 3G Pilot in Portuguese territory, namely in the Madeira Island.
