The main goal in the prime minister’s five day visit to China is to mobilize the new technological center of the Chinese multinational Huawei to Portugal.

A source from the Portuguese executive told the news agency Lusa that one of the main purposes of António Costa’s five day visit to China is to mobilize to Portugal the new technological center of the Chinese multinational Huawei.

According to the same source, Huawei is finalizing negotiations with the Portuguese Government in order to have a technological center installed in Portugal, as the North American multinationals Cisco and Microsoft have done before.

“This agreement would have a very relevant impact in employment in Portugal”, stated a government employee.

Before returning to Lisbon on Wednesday, António Costa will leave Macau to go to Shenzhen, in the province of Guangdong, 25 kilometers north of Hong Kong, to visit Huawei’s main campus – the multinational that has developed partnerships with Portuguese institutions in the last few years.

In the main campus, the prime minister will go to the “Experience Room” and to the company’s laboratory.

As a part of this visit, Huawei is expected to sign agreements with Portuguese Universities.
