The government is proposing an increase of 5 to 6 euros per beneficiary, since some pensioners accumulate several pensions.

The government acknowledges an increase in minimum pensions of 5 to 6 euros per pensioner in August, discloses Portuguese TV channel TVI.

Until now, the government’s proposal was to extraordinarily increase in August pensioners that were earning less than circa 630 euros from their combined amount of pensions, but excluding the updated pensions in the previous legislative period. The goal was to make these pensioners earn 10 more euros compared to 2015, considering the January update in pensions.

In order to answer the counter-offers made by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) and the Left Bloc (BE), which have been requesting a wider increase, the government acknowledges the increase will affect all pensioners. The period for proposing alterations of the 2017 State Budget ends tomorrow.
