Danish company JYSK opens its first technology hub in Portugal
The brand specialising in rest, furniture and decoration will open a technology centre in Lisbon and expects to hire between 10 and 15 workers by the end of the summer.
Danish brand JYSK, which specialises in rest, furniture and decoration, has chosen the city of Lisbon to open its first technology hub in Portugal and wants to have at least 10 to 15 employees by the end of the summer. Although it has been present in the country since 2016 and currently operates 29 shops nationwide, its first office will open in May, when the first software engineers are expected to start work.
In a statement, the company explains that “the aim is to create IT solutions that ensure a more efficient and innovative shopping experience”, so the new space in the Portuguese capital “is an extension of JYSK’s main IT centres in Germany (Handewitt) and Denmark (Aarhus)”.
To launch the Lisbon office, JYSK has partnered with a company specialising in recruitment, which will support the initial selection phase and provide the necessary facilities. “Initially, the focus will be on hiring professionals with Java skills who can actively contribute to our teams, as well as a local team leader to support development”, says Thomas Høiberg Jensen, SAP & IT Development Director for the Danish brand.
The choice of Lisbon as the location for this new technology centre is justified by the “excellent cultural connection” and the “wide range of technical courses on offer, which guarantee the presence of many qualified candidates”. “In addition, the time difference of just one hour from JYSK’s main IT centres and the high percentage of English speakers in the city are factors that facilitate effective collaboration”, he adds.
“The new technology centre in Lisbon should be seen as a complement to our existing locations. It will strengthen our capacity for innovation and enable even more effective collaboration between international teams. We will, of course, continue to recruit new talent in Handewitt and Aarhus as we expand our operations and advance our technological ambitions”, says Keld Marott, Executive Vice President of IT.
JYSK currently employs 30,000 people and has more than 3,500 physical shops and online shops in 48 countries.
