Galp, TotalEnergies team up for offshore wind farms
Galp and TotalEnergies want to "develop renewable energy sources that help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development".
Galp has teamed up with TotalEnergies to jointly explore opportunities in offshore (floating) wind energy in Portugal, with the aim of working together to develop projects along the Portuguese coast, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
“Galp and TotalEnergies have agreed to jointly explore potential opportunities in offshore wind energy in Portugal, at a time when the country is starting a plan to promote 10 GW [gigawatts] of offshore wind capacity in the coming years,” the statement said.
The companies said they “will work together to develop potential offshore wind projects along the Portuguese coast,” highlighting that the partnership combines Galp’s “presence and knowledge of the Portuguese market, with TotalEnergies’ expertise in large-scale offshore wind projects (with a global portfolio of 12 GW) and an expanding Iberian presence.
According to the same note, the companies “intend to contribute with their technical skills and knowledge of energy markets” to the “development of the offshore wind sector in Portugal”.
Galp and TotalEnergies want to “develop renewable energy sources that help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development” in line with the goals “of achieving net neutral emissions worldwide by 2050”.
In the statement, the companies said that Portugal “has set the ambition to promote the development of 10 GW of offshore wind capacity”, which opens “a range of opportunities along its vast coastline, with favourable weather conditions and adequate industrial infrastructure”.
TotalEnergies has more than 130 employees working in the areas of renewable energy and more than 550 MW of wind and solar energy under development, it said.
