The actual rate estimated by INE is higher than the 6.5% estimated in the state budget for 2023, which was tabled in parliament last October.

Portugal’s economy grew by 6.7% last year, its fastest rate since 1987, according to a flash estimate released on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The rate of growth in gross domestic product was one-tenth below the government’s official forecast, as the minister of finance, Fernando Medina, had the end of December stated his conviction that the economy would in 2022 see growth “of around 6.8 percent.”

The actual rate estimated by INE is, however, higher than the 6.5% estimated in the state budget for 2023, which was tabled in parliament last October.
