Wine exports in 9M22 rise to over €677M, fall 0.59% in volume

Exports of Portuguese wines exceeded €677 million through September, registering a rise of 0.97% in value and a drop of 0.59% in volume, ViniPortugal said on Friday.
“In the period between January and September this year (9M22), total exports of Portuguese wines reached €677.3 million, showing a growth in value of 0.97% and in average price of 1.57%,” ViniPortugal said on Friday.
However, in terms of volume, 243,554,290 litres were exported, a drop of 0.59% compared to the same period in 2021.
In this period, exports to Mexico more than doubled (114.8%).
Angola (86%) and Canada (7.58%) came next with the biggest increases.
The five main export markets were the USA, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Canada.
Excluding Port Wine, exports increased 3.51% in value, 1.09% in volume and 2.39% in average price, compared to the same period in 2021.
By region, Port wine was the most exported, between January and September, but the Dão region had the highest percentage growth (22.49%).
“Although with some falls during these months, much due to the context of war that led to the lack of raw material, jeopardising production and some constraints in distribution, in total this period, exports show a positive result for Portuguese wines,” noted, quoted in the same note, the president of ViniPortugal, Frederico Falcão.
ViniPortugal is the Interprofessional Wine Association, which aims to promote Portugal’s image as a wine producer.
