The company will build five more solar photovoltaic farms in Portugal, with an additional renewable energy generation capacity of up to 70 Megawatt (MW).

GreenVolt announced on Wednesday it was building five more solar photovoltaic farms in Portugal, with an additional renewable energy generation capacity of up to 70 Megawatt (MW), adding to the 10 MW already in operation in Cantanhede.

“A total of five solar photovoltaic projects are currently under construction in the centre and south of the country that, in time, could add up to 70 MW to power generation capacity, taking advantage of the country’s strong solar exposure,” the renewable energy company said in a statement.

These parks will join another that is already in production – the Cantanhede park – with around 18,000 solar panels and a capacity of 10 MW, and capable of reaching an estimated production of 16 Gigawatt hours (GWh) per year.

“At a time when it is important to diversify energy sources, but also to seek sustainable sources, GreenVolt has decided to accelerate the projects it has under development in Portugal,” the company added.

According to the company, “the Cantanhede park, as well as the other five that are now being built, is part of a series of solar photovoltaic projects that total 243 MW of capacity, of which around 160 MW are at an advanced stage of development. GreenVolt owns 50% of these projects.

Alongside the production of energy from biomass, forestry waste and urban woody waste in Portugal and the United Kingdom, GreenVolt is a promoter of wind and solar photovoltaic projects, operating in several European markets and the American market, with a ‘pipeline’ of 6.7 GW (Gigawatts), of which 2.9 GW “at an advanced stage of development until the end of 2023”.

GreenVolt operates in the Portuguese and Spanish markets in the strategic segment of decentralised renewable energy generation, both in the business and residential segments.
