McDonald’s Portugal to invest €120 million in new restaurants
The US chain has a campaign underway to attract new franchisees.
McDonald’s expects to invest up to €120 million in up to 20 restaurants in three years, representing a potential creation of up to 1,000 direct jobs with the opening of new spaces by franchisees. The US chain has a campaign underway to attract new franchisees.
“McDonald’s projects to allocate, over the next three years, between €80 to €120 million in new restaurant openings. The new restaurants may be assigned to franchisees who are finishing their training or to franchisees who are already part of McDonald’s,” Vítor Oliveira, financial, IT and franchising director of McDonald’s Portugal, told ECO.
The chain is looking for new franchisees, having advanced with the recruitment campaign – “Leave your brand in a great brand” – with defined goals. “McDonald’s franchising campaign aims to amplify the already strong network of McDonald’s Portugal franchisees and encourage applications for new franchises by professionals motivated to leave their mark on McDonald’s. We aim to incorporate into the McDonald’s Portugal system between 15 and 20 new franchisees in the next three years,” says the person responsible for the franchising area of the chain.
Opening new restaurants will boost the job market. Each new McDonald’s restaurant “hires, on average, 50 new employees, depending on the size and location of the restaurant”, to which must be added “indirect jobs during the restaurant’s activity”, says Vítor Oliveira. If the plans to attract new franchisees come true and each one opens just one restaurant, they may create between 750 and 1,000 direct jobs in the triennium.
