Housing platforms which advertise rooms for rental or short renting could be fined up to 32,500 euros if they do not show the official registration numbers for each property.

From July onward, housing platforms which advertise rooms for rental or short renting (alojamento local) could be fined up to 32,500 euros if they do not show the official registration numbers for each property.

“Digital platforms which provide, advertise or commercialize housing (…) must demand and show in the platform the number from the Portuguese Tourism Registration“, is stated in the decree-law from the Economy Ministry, to be enforced on the first of July.

The document comprehends digital platforms such as OLX, Airbnb or Sapo Casa; both touristic enterprises and other enterprises who do not gather the criteria to be considered touristic, such as short renting or rooms for rental, are also included in the rule.

The owners of these types of accommodations were already forced to have that registration and show it to tourists, but only from July onward could they be penalized: fines could go from 125 euros to 3,250 euros for individuals and 1,250 to 32,500 for corporate bodies.
