Mota-Engil wins €129M Guinea contract to build stadium for AFCON 2025
The company reports the "award of a contract in Guinea worth €128.8 million" to "its subsidiary for the Africa region", for works relating to the June 2025 AFCON finals.
Mota-Engil, one of Portugal’s largest construction groups, has won a contract in Guinea, worth €128.8 million, to build a stadium for the 2025 finals of football’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and other structures, the company said in a statement to the Securities Markets Commission (CMVM).
In the note, the company reports the “award of a contract in Guinea worth €128.8 million” to “its subsidiary for the Africa region”, for works relating to the June 2025 AFCON finals.
“The contract provides for the construction of a stadium with 15,000 spectators with a training field for 1,000 spectators,” the statement reads. “It also provides for the construction of 3 training fields and two sets of 36 villas, 1 club with events room and restaurant, 1 sports field and 1 swimming pool … to accommodate 4 teams.”
According to Mota-Engil, the contract is scheduled to start in July 2022 and will last 24 months, with the project located in the city of Boké, approximately 250 kilometres northwest of the capital, Conakry, where some AFCON 2025 games are to be played.
“With this award, the Group continues to strengthen its portfolio in Africa, ensuring the growth and sustainability that are pillars of its Strategic Plan, Building ’26,” it said.
