Organized by companies and entities in the Algarve innovation area, the event "aims to position the Algarve as a global and competitive technology hub".

The Algarve will host its first edition of the “Algarve Tech Hub Summit”, between March 28 and April 3, an innovation and technology summit to attract investment to the region, it was announced on Wednesday.

Organized by companies and entities in the Algarve innovation area, the event “aims to position the Algarve as a global and competitive technology hub, able to attract companies, institutions and individuals from various economic sectors,” said Vanessa Nascimento, of Algarve Evolution, one of the promoting associations.

The meeting will take place in a hybrid format – in person and online – in the cities of Faro and Loulé, in the district of Faro, with the presence of about 50 national and international speakers, from 10 countries, from the areas of innovation, technology, tourism, sea, agri-food, health, energy, digital, art and culture.

“Besides Europe, Latin America will have a strong participation in this meeting, which will take place in the format of conferences and debates, which will also serve to analyse where we are and where we are going, a reflection that should be made in the region, very much around what are the strategic and priority themes for the region,” said Vanessa Nascimento.

She advanced that, during the seven days, it is expected that the event “also represents a step towards the culmination of the positioning of the Algarve as the best lifestyle destination in Europe for companies and individuals dedicated to technology. It will identify talents and attract international interest groups, namely strategic investors, the scientific community and digital nomads”.

In Vanessa Nascimento’s opinion, “we still need to work hard and together with all entities, to have an innovative and economically more diverse Algarve”, and she challenged all those who are not yet part of the project “to join this and future events”.

The organizers hope that the “Algarve Tech Hub Summit” can aggregate and consolidate practical knowledge in specific technological areas, creating an intellectual potential that allows the development of successful projects.

The initiative was presented today via videoconference and is part of the strategy to strengthen the regional technological ecosystem, developed by the University of Algarve and the associations Algarve STP and Algarve Evolution for the consolidation of the brand Algarve Tech Hub (ATH), able to position the Algarve at the forefront of building a winning strategy for a digital region recognized and competitive on a global scale.
