"The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns given its limited impact on the market structure," the institution said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The European Commission on Thursday approved the joint control of Lusoponte, the concessionaire of the two bridges over the Tagus River in Lisbon, by France’s Vinci and Mota-Engil, considering that the proposed transaction does not affect European competition.

“The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control of Lusoponte by Lineas [of the Mota-Engil group], both based in Portugal, and by Vinci, based in France,” the institution said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The new shareholder structure of Lusoponte, which has now been approved by Brussels, comes after the departure of the Italian group Atlantia (ex-Autostrade).

Lusoponte is the concession holder of two bridges over the river Tagus in Lisbon, the Vasco da Gama and 25 de Abril, whose contract expires in March 2030.

“The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns given its limited impact on the market structure. The transaction has been examined under the simplified merger control procedure”, says the EC executive.
