The establishment of the four new companies in the Municipal Aerodrome of Ponte de Sor involves an overall investment of more than €20 million, "in the coming years", the mayor said.

Four companies in the aviation sector will invest more than €20 million and create about 250 jobs in the Municipal Aerodrome of Ponte de Sor (Portalegre), said the mayor, Hugo Hilário, on Wednesday.

Among the group of companies that will set up at the Municipal Aerodrome, at the Business Hosting Centre for the Aeronautical and Aerospace Industry, is one dedicated to manufacturing avionics components and another focused on maintenance of such systems.

One for aircraft maintenance and technical training in aeronautical maintenance and another dedicated to manufacturing helmets, especially for helicopter pilots.

“Together these four companies will create around 250 direct jobs within a year,” Hilário said.

The establishment of the four new companies involves an overall investment of more than €20 million, “in the coming years”, the mayor said.

“Two of them will start working right away,” while another “will start by the end of the 1st quarter of 2022” and the fourth “by the end of the 1st half of next year, if everything materialises and if the pandemic allows it,” he explained.

The mayor also recalled that the extension of the Ponte de Sor Aeronautical and Aerospace Industry Business Hosting Centre, comprising three hangars, involved an investment of around “6 to €7 million”.

“In this 2nd phase [expansion], the contract for the flight information tower is also included,” he added.

In a note published on the Ponte de Sor municipality’s Facebook page, it is stated that the Sevenair company was the last to sign a lease, occupying one of the spaces in the aerodrome’s business centre.

The plans of this company are to install “part of the aircraft maintenance and the training of aeronautical maintenance technicians” in Ponte de Sor.

“This company, with over 30 years of activity, is also responsible for the internal flight route in mainland Portugal that links Bragança, Lisbon and Portimão, among many other activities” in the sector, the municipality indicated.
