Bondalti to invest in lithium starting next year
Through a €4 million deal with an Australian company, Bondalti will build a plant in Estarreja during the second half of 2022.
Bondalti will start investing in lithium as early as 2022, after having established an 18-month agreement with Australian company Reed Advanced Materials, worth €4 million, to “purify” lithium, according to Jornal de Negócios.
The partnership’s goal is to build a pilot plant in Estarreja, in the district of Aveiro, where the country’s largest chemical company is located, in a project that is part of the Mobilising Agendas of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The plant will be built “during the second half of 2022” and will be ready to operate “at the beginning of 2023,” Luis Delgado, executive director of the former CUF told the newspaper.
The future industrial facility is expected to produce 25,000 tons per year, divided between lithium hydroxide and carbonate. The investment will also mean the recruitment of some workers. According to Delgado, people are already being hired for various sectors, from design to operation, and it is expected to involve a “team of about ten people.
