Portugal exceeds 10,000 new cases of Covid

In the last 24 hours, 10,549 cases of Covid-19 were detected. The number of daily cases had not been this high since January 30.

The Directorate-General of Health (DGS) has identified 10,549 new cases of Covid-19, which brings the total number of people infected since the start of the pandemic to 1,253,094. Thursday’s bulletin also shows that in the last 24 hours, 17 more people have died from the disease, making a total of 18,840 deaths.

Since January 30 (12,435 cases reported), the number of daily cases had not been this high. Currently, there are 84,643 active cases, 6,584 more than in the previous bulletin. Under surveillance by the health authorities are 112,417 people because they have had contact with confirmed cases of Covid-19, that is 5,185 more in the last 24 hours.

Despite the high percentage of infections, the number of hospitalisations continues to decrease in the country. There are now 893 patients admitted to hospital units (16 fewer in the last 24 hours), including 148 in intensive care units (seven people less).
