Danish Eurowind Energy builds first solar project in Portugal
Named Triana, the solar farm is expected to start operating in the third quarter of 2022.
Danish company Eurowind Energy has started the construction of its first solar project in Portugal. The agreement to acquire the project from Hyperion Renewables was reached in August 2020 and the transaction was completed in April 2021, the company announced this Thursday in a statement.
Named Triana, the solar farm is expected to start operating in the third quarter of 2022.
With 40,741 PV bifacial modules and spread over a 30-hectares area, the solar farm will be connected to the Cheganças substation at 30kV and expects to power approximately 14,100 households.
“Our Portuguese team has been developing from scratch a larger greenfield pipeline which includes PV, wind and storage as well as hydrogen projects. We aim to have an increasingly active role in Portugal and it is very exciting to see that our contribution for a greener economy in this market has just taken off,” Eurowind Energy CEO Jens Rasmussen said in a statement.
For his part, Pedro Pereira, managing director for Southern Europe, said that “This is just the first project of a number of renewables projects in our pipeline and we look forward to starting the construction of another portfolio of projects already next year.”
Eurowind Energy is in the final stages of licensing a portfolio of small PV projects with more than 40MW in the Centre and North of Portugal. The construction of these projects is scheduled to start in 2022.
