Former minister under house arrest until €6M bail paid

The bail applied to the former minister is the highest ever in Portuguese justice, surpassing the €5 million required last summer to businessman Joe Berardo in the CGD case.

The former minister Manuel Pinho will remain under house arrest until he pays bail of €5 million as part of the EDP case, decided to investigate judge Carlos Alexandre on Wednesday.

The former minister’s wife, Alexandra Pinho, will have to post bail in the amount of one million euros, in addition to the seizure of her passport and the obligation to make fortnightly visits to a police station, confirmed the couple’s lawyer, Ricardo Sá Fernandes, as he left the court.
