Portugal's former minister of economy was detained after appearing at DCIAP for questioning as part of the EDP case. Pinho's wife also has an arrest warrant.

The former minister of economy, Manuel Pinho, was detained after appearing at the Central Department of Investigation and Prosecution (DCIAP) for questioning as part of the EDP case. There is also an arrest warrant for his wife, Alexandra Pinho.

The EDP case is related to the Contractual Balance Maintenance Costs (CMEC) in which António Mexia, former CEO of EDP, and Manso Neto, former chairman of EDP Renováveis, are suspected of corruption and economic participation in a business deal to maintain the excessive rents contract, in which, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, they corrupted the former minister of economy Manuel Pinho and the former secretary of state for energy Artur Trindade.

The case has been under investigation at DCIAP for about eight years and has five defendants: António Mexia, João Manso Neto, Manuel Pinho, the director of REN and former consultant to Pinho, João Faria Conceição, and Pedro Furtado, responsible for regulation at the energy networks management company.
