According to the latest electricity bulletin from Adene's Energy Observatory, renewable electricity generation accounted for 58.2% of the total electricity produced in August

In August, renewable electricity generation accounted for 58.2% of the total electricity produced in Portugal, according to the latest electricity bulletin from Adene’s Energy Observatory.

The remaining 41.8% was provided by fossil sources, such as natural gas, responsible for 30% of electricity generation in Portugal.

Among renewables, wind energy stood out with 23.1%, but still below the previous months of 2021, when it reached almost 30%. Solar photovoltaic energy contributed about 7.1% of total electricity production, making it the highest contribution of the year, according to Adene.

“The relatively dry year has gradually penalised the hydroelectricity production, having represented in August about 18.8% of the total electricity produced, the lowest value of the first eight months of the year,” the bulletin states.
