The Águas de Portugal Group (AdP) has announced the signing of two contracts with the Angolan Ministry of Energy and Water worth US$10.5 million (8.9 million euros).

In a statement sent to Lusa, AdP said that the two contracts related to technical assistance for the development of water supply and sanitation services and would be funded by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank.

The project in Huila is expected to last four years and will cover the municipalities of Lubango, Chibia, Matala, Jamba, Cacula and Quipungo, totalling 1.6 million people.

This contract involves technical assistance to EASH for capacity building of the company in technical, financial and commercial areas.

The project in Luena, Dundo and Namibe has a three-year duration and aims to support the Angolan Ministry of Energy and Water in the “implementation of the respective funding project, particularly in monitoring and management of the contract, financial management of projects and environmental and social management of projects.

These two contracts are in addition to two others that the group has in Angola until 2022, which include support for management of the provincial water supply companies in Bengo and Cunene and represent around US$14 million (€11.87 million at the current exchange rate), with funding from the African Development Bank.
