Remittances from Portuguese in Angola fall 15.5% to €19.2M in January

According to figures from the Bank of Portugal (BoP), remittances from the Portuguese in Angola fell 15.5% in January to 19.2 million euros.

Remittances from the Portuguese in Angola fell 15.5% in January to 19.2 million euros, whilst Angolans working in Portugal sent 670,000 euros to their country, representing a rise of 1.5%.

According to figures from the Bank of Portugal consulted by Lusa, Portuguese emigrants in Angola sent 19.23 million euros in January, which was a decrease versus the 22.7 million they had sent in January of last year.

In the opposite direction, Angolans in Portugal sent 670,000 euros to their country, which represents a slight rise of 1.5% compared to the 660,000 euros sent in January 2020.

Overall, remittances from emigrants fell 12.2% in January this year to 269.4 million euros, while foreigners working in Portugal sent 42.4 million euros, which represents a rise of 10.8%.

On the contrary, foreigners working in Portugal sent 43.4 million euros to their countries in January, which shows an increase of 10.8% compared to the 39.1 million euros sent in the same period last year.

The value of remittances in January is the lowest since January 2017, when remittances in the first month of the year were 263.9 million euros, up from 230.8 million sent in January 2016.
