Portugal is the 2nd country in the world with the most cases per million people. Despite the low mortality rate, it's also the 3rd with the most deaths per million people.

Portugal is the 2nd country in the world with the most Covid-19 cases per million people. The number of new cases in Portugal has consistently been higher than 10,000 in recent days. According to data published by the “Our World in Data” website, the incidence rate (number of cases per million people) over the last seven days (until January 17) in Portugal is 926.24.

Portugal is only behind Israel in the Covid-19 incidence rate, with 996.39 new cases per million citizens.

Next in line are Andorra (with 918.92 cases per million people), Czech Republic (773.64) and Ireland (726.55). Ireland is in a very different situation from last week, when it registered a maximum of 1322.92 cases per million citizens on January 10.

As far as the death rate is concerned, Portugal is at 97th, with a death rate of 1.6%. The country with the highest mortality rate in the world is Yemen (29%), followed by Mexico (8.6%), Syria (6.4%), Ecuador (6.2%) and Sudan (6.1%).

Despite the low mortality rate, Portugal is the 3rd country in the world with the most deaths per million people in the last seven days. Between January 10 and 17, 14.82 deaths per million citizens. Portugal is only behind the United Kingdom (16.54) and the Czech Republic (16.31).

As for testing, Portugal is the 15th country in the world with the most tests per thousand people. The country carries out, on average, 4.78 tests per thousand citizens, according to data from January 13.
