Web Summit from home: Here’s what’s happening on the last day

It will be the last day of Web Summit, that promises to end in style. We've selected what you can't miss on the third day of the first fully digital edition of this event.

The third and final day of Web Summit 2020 has everything to get you started. To help you prepare for another busy day of conferences and lots of information, Deepak Chopra’s author and physician leads the audience in a guided meditation at 11:30 am on the main channel. This Friday you can hear the Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira, unveiling the next plans for Portugal, as well as the Vice President of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager, to activist Jane Goodall, actor Kevin Hart and professional football-player Ricardo Quaresma.

The main channel starts at noon with Shell CEO Ben van Beurden explaining how the future of the energy sector is shaped. At 12:40 pm it’s time to welcome scientist and activist Jane Goodall, who will bring the green tech issue to the debate to clarify how technology can even be part of a more sustainable future.

What do we know about Covid-19’s cure and what to expect in 2021? This is the conference theme scheduled for 12:45 p.m., at the society channel and reserved for Soumya Swaminathan, chief science officer of the World Health Organization. Later, at 4:30 pm, it’s Nikolay Storonsky, CEO and founder of fintech Revolut,’s turn to share the tools on digital banking.

At 2.25 pm, Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President of the European Commission, releases the first insights into a more digital European future.

The channel dedicated to Portugal starts at 2 pm with the Portuguese Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira, explaining how to bring the economy back to life after the pandemic crisis, which hit the country in 2020. Soon after, at 2:10 am, the Portuguese Footballer Ricardo Quaresma will share the secrets to keep himself in the best shape possible. Throughout the afternoon, José Neves, CEO and founder of Farfetch and the José Neves Foundation, Fado singer Mariza, writer José Luís Peixoto, president of Aicep Portugal, Luís Castro Henriques, João Borga, president of Startup Portugal and also Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism, who will talk about the future of a sector strongly affected by the pandemic.

If you are interested in knowing what NASA’s next missions are, get ready a few minutes before 3:00 PM. At 2:55 p.m., the creators’ channel will welcome the first woman to lead NASA manned space flights and Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Martin Space. If you want to know more about the space exploration plans in Europe, stay on the channel and listen to the European Space Agency’s director-general, Jan Wörner, at 3:30 pm.

At 3:10 pm, Deepak Chopra returns to the creators’ channel, and joins with AI Foundation CEO and founder Lars Buttlers to discuss the artificial intelligence capabilities to develop human potential and build a better future.

Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the channel dedicated to society will deal with economics and finance. At 4:45 pm, Nigerian Olugbenga Agboola, CEO and founder of Flutterwave, will be sharing the reality of digital payments in Nigeria and at 4:50 pm it is the turn of European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness, to reflect on the present and the post-Covid-19 future.

Web Summit 2020’s main channel conferences continue at 5:20 p.m., with U.S. actor Kevin Hart and the director of the fashion retailer TechStyle Fashion Group, joining together to reveal the latest trends in the fashion industry, technology and its path to success.

At 6 pm, Hilary Coles, co-founder of Hims & Hers and pop artist Viktoria Modesta, will explain how to maintain a healthy mind and body in the digital and social network universe. Also on the creators’ channel, from 7:05 pm, Emile Sandé, founder and CEO of MOBO Kanya King, Nnenna Ilomechina, managing director of Accenture and Natasha Chetiyawardana, creative partner of Bow & Arrow talk about how to “empower equality in the creative industry”.

The day ends with a Dead Combo concert and, as usual, by the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
