Web Summit from home: Here’s what’s happening on day 2
From health to technology to sports, there are many speakers to see at the Web Summit. We have selected what you can't miss in the first fully online edition of the event.
The second day of the Web Summit, which this year is fully online, will bring names linked to some of the main themes that marked 2020. In health, to talk about the challenges linked to the pandemic, over 100 thousand participants will be able to listen to the Minister Marta Temido or The WHO Director-General. Among the speakers on the second day are also the leaders of Microsoft and Zoom.
One of the first highlights of the day is on the channel dedicated to creators. The event starts at noon with the Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who will receive the Web Summit’s sports innovation award.
On the main channel, at 12.30pm, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, talks about how to build a European economy for the people. An hour later, a conversation on the challenges cities face will bring together the mayors of Lisbon, London and Toronto.
The channel dedicated to Portugal kicks off at 2 p.m. with Health Minister Marta Temido, who will talk about how the country is dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. This channel will also feature interventions by five-minute startups founders, such as André Jordão, founder and CEO of Barkyn, at 2:20 p.m., and the founder of OutSystems, Paulo Rosado, at 3:45 p.m.
Still on the national stage, Galp’s CEO speaks about the decarbonization challenges at 3:50 pm. Moving on to the channel dedicated to society, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchéz has a message for Web Summit participants at 4:40pm. Also on this stage, Microsoft president Brad Smith will discuss, at 5:45 pm, the role of technology in economic recovery.
Returning to the main stage, at 4:30 pm is the turn of Julie Sweet, Accenture’s CEO, to start a conversation with Sanda Ojiambo and Drake Baer about “Strategising for a better world”. Next, Zoom founder and CEO, Eric Yuan, one of the companies that gained prominence this year, by providing a tool for companies to communicate by video call, will speak about the new panorama, at 5:30pm.
