Number of Covid-19 cases increases 2%. Death toll at 1,105

The new coronavirus has already infected more than 26,000 people in Portugal and caused the death of 1,105 people.

Portugal has registered 533 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is an increase of 2% over the previous day, with the total number of infected people rising to 26,715.

By midnight on Monday, the country has registered over 26,000 cases of people infected with the coronavirus. Of all these cases, 874 are hospitalized, of which 135 are in intensive care, the DGS bulletin shows. But there are still 2,666 people waiting for laboratory results and over 27,000 are under surveillance by Portugal’s health authorities.

Since it appeared in the country at the beginning of March, the disease has already caused the death of 1,105 people. In the last 24 hours, there have been 16 deaths. According to the Secretary of State for Health, the lethality rate is currently at 4.1%, rising to 15.1% in the over 70 age group.

The North continues to be the most affected region, with 15,450 confirmed cases and 634 deaths, ahead of the Lisbon region, which registers 6,935 cases and 230 deaths. Behind it are the Centro (3,545 cases and 213 deaths), the Algarve (343 cases and 13 deaths), and the Alentejo (220 cases and one death).
