Portugal with the lowest inflation rate in Europe

The annual inflation rate in the Eurozone fell to 1.2%, with Portugal and Greece having the lowest inflation rate (0.6%), a decrease of two tenths compared to January (0.8%).

The annual inflation rate in the Eurozone fell from 1.4% in January to 1.2% in February, while in Portugal it fell from 0.8% to 0.6%, the lowest in Greece, according to Eurostat estimates.

According to preliminary data released this Tuesday by the European Union’s official statistics office, among the 17 of the 19 Eurozone countries for which data are available for the month of February, Portugal had the lowest inflation rate (0.6%) together with Greece, registering a decrease of two tenths compared to the value registered in the first month of the year (0.8%).

The highest annual inflation rates were observed in Slovakia (3.1%), Lithuania (2.7%) and Latvia (2.3%).

Among the main components of inflation in the Euro Zone, the food, alcohol and tobacco sector should be the one with the highest rate in February (2.2%, compared to 2.1% in January), followed by services (1.6%, slightly above the 1.5% recorded in the first month of the year).

Eurostat will publish complete and updated data on the annual inflation rate in the Eurozone on March 18th.
